What is a good site or software/ hardware solution for creating an Intranet.?

I am trying to create an intranet but I am not sure where to begin or what kinds of tools to use.What is a good site or software/ hardware solution for creating an Intranet.?
The easiest way is to click on ';my internet'; on the Yahoo home page and follow the instructions from there. There is space for some of your personal information.





If you want to have more control of the process, follow these steps.





First you need an internet service provider (ISP) that will give you server space and your own URL (web address) in the internet space. Yahoo does do it.





Secondly you have to create the stuff you want on your site.


* If you want pictures you'll need a picture editor like adobe photoshop - which you can download for free. Make your pictures as small as possible so visitors don't wait for hours for downloads.


* Then you have to write the information you want on your site in HTML. You link to pictures, e-mail addresses, webcams and all the other stuff through these html pages. You can either learn to tag HTML in notepad by buying one of those how to books, or you can get an html author program. Netscape Author, Front Page etc can be used. Using MSWord and saving as HTML does work but the pages tend to be big and download slowly.





Thirdly you have to load your pictures and pages on to your ISP's servers at your URL. The html author programs normally have a built in publisher. If you are creating your own html coded pages I find SmartFTP freeware is the best.What is a good site or software/ hardware solution for creating an Intranet.?
