Acrylic is not non-toxic. It is probably safest because you won't have to use chemicals to dilute it, you can use water. The medium that holds the pigment is safe, but artist's acrylics have pigments that are made with the same elements as oils. Cadmium, cobalt, lead, all these are toxic. Go to a quality art store and ask the manager if they carry any synthetic acrylics and emphasize that it is important that they are non-toxic. If you have a Dick Blick near you, they carry Scholastic acrylics. But I'm sure any store near you would have something comparable.
Acrylic. It is totally safe. It comes out of clothes if you treat it with soap and water before it dries. Once it is machine washed and dried in a commercial or home dryer it is permanently set. Acrylic is non toxic and dries to the touch fast. You can also manipulate it With different mediums listed at liquitex's website. Another fun thing you can do with kids with acrylic paint, is to buy some acrylic high gloss varnish. It washes out with water / the same as acrylic does., Print out a picture on your computer of anything..even a picture of them print it twice so the quality of ink is rich. Paint several coats of acrylic varnish over the print. anywhere from 8-9 layers. Let dry for over an hour. Run under cold water. The paper will fall away and the image will remain on the varnish. You can pat it dry with a paper towel. be care full not to tear it. Place some varnish on a canvas and lay the image on top of the wet varnish. You have just made a decal of the child and they will love it. you can repeat the process and layer or place them next to each other. cove With varnish to complete . Tad ah..you have a piece of art.
